well this sucks penis.

i got CEP 1.2 just a few months ago. do i get a free upgrade?

Sorry to resurrect this thread after 4 months, but I just downloaded the demo, and I was seeing what others had to say.

Although it is years late, this is the most intuitive program I've used (although there are many I haven't tried) I started using Vegas because of its intuitiveness, and it was more than powerful enough for me (volume, pan, fx envelopes, submix busses as well as aux sends) I will say that CoolEdit Pro 2.0 seems more intuitive even than Vegas, although I do prefer the envelope editing in Vegas, and I haven't figured out CoolEdits busses yet. But I really do love this program so far.

My question is this. What do the "pro" programs have that CoolEdit does not? I'm not being antagonistic, the only other programs I've used are Cakewalk, Cubase, and Logic(impossible to learn). What can the more expensive programs do that CoolEdit does not, or how do they do what they do better. I will be buying a new program next year, and I want to know what I would be missing out on if I did not buy one of the more expensive options.

Everything camn mentioned that was missing is included in 2.0. I can't comment on it sounding worse than Nuendo though.

thanks,

josh

I can't answer your question because I've only ever used Cool Edit (I just bought 2.0 also - it's more powerful than 1.2... and $79 for the upgrade - damn, how can you beat that?). But from comments I've read over the years, Cool 2.0 differs from the others only in certain details of certain features, nothing particularly significant. Now that 2.0 does realtime processing, it's right up there with the others.

There's no big reason not to use Cool 2.0 for most things, near as I can tell. And if you've been using 1.2, there are all sorts of reasons to upgrade.
