Looking to record...

Hey i am not new to making music but everytime i record, it comes out like CRAP.I have a Yamaha DJX IIB and want to record to tape. w/o the HISS. It has MIDI IN and out but i dont want the MIDI sound. The only other out slots it has are aux (RCA slots) Should i buy a mixer, would that improve the quality???What should I do.

First kill the DJX!!! It's one of the biggest noise makin' keyboards
in Yamaha's line.
But if you're intent on using the DJX, and want to record it's sounds (and also add other instruments and vocals) you need a multi-track recorder (either ADAT or DAW).The use of the mixer is so you can send several signals (2 or more) into the corresponding track # of the recorder.
But buying a mixer will not improve the sound of the DJX.
Perhaps an EQ,compressor and some 'verb's might enhance the inherent low quality samples and noise contained in this keyboard.

Why not try recording into your computer, make your adjustments, then transfer to tape.

1. Use a computer.

2. Get a sampler. A soundcard with SoundFont support or Gigasampler will get you good MIDI sound (if I were you I'd restrain myself from saying 'MIDI sounds like crap' in the future because that will piss off a lot of people, and give your inexperience away ).

3. Get a good Audio soundcard.

4. Depending on the audio card you buy you may have to get a mixer (to mix all the outs together).

Just use the search to find info on all of the above.
