I am very comfortable with the mastering on the Neo 2488, but it went tu on me. Needs a new motherboard. I am thinking about making the leap to protools but am VERY lerry that I can't produce the same quality demos. I am working on a budget so I am looking at starting small (Avid Recording Studio with ProTools SE). What are my limitations and am I setting myself up for disapointment?

Hey there,
I'm a long time PT user.....but....

I hear a lot about the limitations of PT SE, so be sure to google it and find those charts that avid have.
You're limited to a certain number of simultaneous I/O, number of tracks, buses, effects and as far as I know, their interfaces.
Maybe these things don't worry you, but just be sure you're aware of them.

There are plenty of threads about issues with it too. I don't know if there's just a correlation between SE and beginners, or if it really has it's faults, but again...just be aware.

I'm not 100% sure how upgrades work with SE, but with every other Protools it is an expensive game if you want to stay current.

If it was me starting out, I'd spend the money on a tascam interface and reaper.
Knowing what I know now, it's a no brainer.
