I'm completely new to the whole recording thing though, and have no idea what I need!
I'm looking for at least 8 Jack/XLR inputs, and either a usb or a firewire output.
I'm also looking for something that will send the signals to the computer in different tracks..
Ie. One track for bass drum mic, one for snare mic, etc.
I've got it down to two Alesis mixers, and I think they both do what I want, but I'm not sure what some of the spec means.
The links to both are here..

Can anyone give me a hand?
Thanks,

Look at the Mackie Onyx mixer or interfaces too for analog/firewire units.
Digital units are another story.

what kinda of MAC do you have? DAW sequencer?

I believe those mixers are like the Peaveys, in that they only record a single stereo track. For multi channel the Onyx with Firewire option is a good choice. Stay away from USB, as it can really only handle 4 i/o any good. Anything decent will be Firewire.
