Especially anything comparing the two. Odd how these two seem almost omnipresent in the recording mags, and yet reviews not written by the companies themselves are so hard to find. if anybody has any links, I'd be grateful. Also, where are the best prices on these two? Thanks in advance. :)

Thanks, dude. The reviews seem to reflect that choosing between the two is a close call. I'm trying to choose between these and a Waves bundle for a DP3 setup. I'll keep looking!

What most users and reviewers will tell you is that it depends on what you need most - great reverb or great limiters and compressors. Almost everyone agrees the Realverb on the UAD is sub-par, and the ClassicVerb on the Powercore is world class. At the same time, the vintage comp/limiters on the UAD are highly praised, with so so reviews of the powercore dynamics. For EQ, the holy grail is the Sony Oxford, which runs on Powercore, but is an expensive add. UAD has the Pulltec, a legendary program EQ, but it's not a great surgical EQ like the Sony.
Myself, I went with the Powercore first, intending to add a UAD later. I wanted great reverb now, and figured adding a second card would be easier if it was the less expensive of the two. Anyway, They are both great cards by most all accounts, with different strengths.

Any idea just how expensive?

You're doing what I'm thinking of doing - Powercore first, then possibly add later. What (if anything) do you know about the new Hardware (outboard) version of the Powercore that's supposed to be out soon? Also, what kind of system are you running? Thanks.

How does powercore's ClassicVerb compare to a Lexicon? How about to ReverbX. I have ReverbX and waves RVerb. I'm not all that happy with the two. I'd like a good reverb plugin, but if not, I'd go for an external unit (i consider powercore a plugin).

Is powercore realy all that better than waves?

i'll find out for christmas.. i'ma get a powercore and a uad-1. or maybe 2 uad-1's..

SOme say that BOTH cards on one sistem cause a PCI bus overload, and it's not difficult to believe...

I definately could see that happening! Just simply throw a PCI graphics card in a recording rig and watch the PCI bandwith bottleneck to f@ck.

when people talk about powercore, the focus is more on the processing power than on quality of plugins. I have dual AMD 1.4 GHZ procs - They handle pretty much everything I give them - fine for multiple RVerbs, but a bit shaky on the ReverbX. I wouldn't fork out for a Powercore unless I was sure ClassicVerb is as good as a comparatively priced lexicon outboard unit.
