looking for plugin... drum equivalent of truepianos?

I've been using TruePianos for my piano sounds for about a year and I've been mostly pleased with it. It works well with my basic Macbook (only 1 GB memory and limited hard disk space). Now I'm looking for a similar drum plugin. I don't need beats or loops or anything like that... just drum sounds. I'd rather program the beats myself in Logic's piano roll editor. And I'm not the sort of purist that insists everything be an actual sample. I'm happy with something that sounds reasonably close to acoustic drums, just as TruePianos sounds reasonably close to (but not exactly like) a real piano. I'm more concerned with the flexibility of the instrument. As I scroll through velocities 1-127, it's important to me that there be no sudden shifts in timbre when the instrument switches from one sample to another. Does such a plugin exist?

Thanks,
Drew

I've looked into EZdrummer, but it seems there's no demo version. It's within my price range at $179, but still... I'm hesitant to make the purchase without trying a demo version first. Or am I mistaken about there being no demo version?

Thanks,
Drew

I think they have youtube videos and demo videos on their site. I use it on all my songs, I think it lives up to its name.

There are no real "try it" demos, but you can hear samples on the website, as Chili said. If you want to save a little longer, buy Superior Drummer 2.0. It's still made by Toontrack. It's a big step up from EZDrummer.

I've watched the videos on the website, but they leave two critical questions unanswered for me:

1) Will it work with my computer's memory?

and

2) Does the timbre of a note change gradually and continuously as you scroll through velocities 1-127?

The latter is more important, since I could add more memory to handle the right plugin. But it's essential for me that there be no shifts in timbre when scrolling through velocities. Otherwise the flexibility and realism of the instrument are limited. For example, if I have a note at velocity 80 in TruePianos and I shift it down a bit to 78, the change in timbre will be slight, proportionate to the slight change in volume. But with many samplers, there seem to be "changeover" points, where you move from one velocity to the next and a different sample starts playing. So there are points where the shift in timbre is disproportionate to the shift in volume. To me, realistically gradual changes in timbre (and dynamics) are more important than the actual drum sounds. With TruePianos, an individual note may not sound exactly like a real piano, but the instrument as a whole functions more like a real piano than some of the more expensive samplers I've heard. Hope that makes sense.

So... can any EZdrummer users confirm for me if there are sudden shifts in timbre when scrolling slowly through the velocities?

And is anyone using it with a Macbook with only 1 GB of memory?

Thanks,
Drew

My first computer had 1 GB of memory and EZDrummer worked on it fine. My new comp has 3 GB and it loads quicker, but it still worked fine on the old machine for me.
