i'm looking for an outboard EQ...
up to the $1000 range, but less if possible

my setup so far is
Rode NTK-Aphex 207-Fatman Compressor-to the Digi 002
any suggestions on the EQ

Parametric or Graphic? (though para affords the user greater ctl in fine tuning freq'y's than graph).

Peep the Klark-Teknik DN series or the Langvin EQPI modeled
after the original Pultec series of dynamic processors.

Yeah, I'd take that Speck or Langevin ANY day!!! Other's I'd take ANY day? DaviSound TB-4 or API 550b (upfront, it'd be more expensive than your budget due to the cost of a rack/PSU like the OSA version, but well worth it for future purchases of pres and comps).

As an alternative, I'll sell you my fully discrete original Trident CB9066, single-channel 3-band parametric EQ with sweepable Qs and one sweepable high-pass and one sweepable low-pass filter.

I'd sell it ONLY because I don't use it often enough to justify keeping it around... My production style for the most part is: If I can't do what I want with what's available onboard, then I need to rethink my mic positioning, mic choice, or mic/preamp combo choice! Ya, there will be times I miss it and wish I had it, but it makes more sense for me to take that money and invest it into something I'll use a lot more often and in something where my setup is really lacking and would benefit from some improvement.
