I like my recordings.
hi.
I got 3 or 4 posible mics, which one do you recomend me for the kick drum?

A-T ATM25, NADY DM 80, and SAMSON Q3.
the other one is the sm57.

do you know a better mic in this range?
thanx.

Well, Do you already OWN these mic's?
If you do-Use the Pro-25! It's a "poor man's" Kick drum mic-and from what I've seen, it works just fine.

If not, I would say either save your money and get a D112, or a Beyer M88, or a Beta 52, or something along those lines. I haven't tried the EV 868 kick mic (it goes for around $200-$220 or so), but if it's anything at all like the 468's, it will kick butt!!

No, I don´t have these mics, but I have to buy one.
the AKG d112 is out of my price range (200)
but I think I can make the job with the atm25 (110).
thanx for your reply.
I will try to get the D112.
what about the NADY dm 80, is it a good kick mic?

Well, I'd personally stay away from Nady Mic's; if you're going to do that, you might as well buy a mic from Radio Shack.

Recording Engineer?

You really did like the ATM25 over the D112? I hear a lot more good things about the D112 than I do the ATM25...what made you like the ATM25 more?

Yerp!!!

Basicly, on the kick, where I found the D112 muddy, the ATM-25 wasn't. The ATM-25 seemed to have more "punch".

Still use the ATM-25 on bass drum every time when miking inside for pretty much everything but "jazzy" recordings....

So for rock music (classic rock/alt rock...the Pixies, Sonic Youth, the Beatles, Frank Black, etc.) type drumming, the ATM25 is better?

But...

Not that I wouldn't take an E/V RE-20 or RE-27 over the ATM-25 most of the time.

I'll buy one eventually.

It's funny how endless the options are. But the ATM-25 is a great kick mic. Yet you could still use a SM57 on your bass drum and get great results as well as a large diaphram mic which costs lot's of k's.

At one of my gigs I had my kick stuffed with newspapers (with both heads on). And the sound guy miced it with a SM58. I don't know what it was but after watching the gig casettes I fell in love with that bass drum sound.

The ATM25 has a GREAT price. $100 less then the d112.

the pro25 is like $40 dlls more then the ATM25...

worth it?
