I'm currently mixing some recordings of my band Cosmic Spring. It's kind of a crossover of electronic dance and other popular music, a mix between live and sequenced, synth and guitars.

My goal was to make the song sound big and spacious without losing focus. I did some basic mastering, so any opinions on the overall sound are also welcome.
Critique on the arrangement is welcome, too. I feel like the two MS20 solos need to sound less like a repetition.
I hope you enjoy the music and are willing to provide some feedback, so I can improve on my mixing efforts.

The song consists of electronic Roland drums, played by a live drummer, a Korg EMX synth, a Triton for the pads and an MS20 for the synth solo, plus guitar and bass guitar.

The overall sound in the first two minutes sounds like it's played under a wet blanket, maybe that's what you are after, there are also a few clicks which might be meant to be there, but as I'm an old fart I may not appreciate them like the young folk. Somehow the synth sounds are not what I expected. Last time I went near a dedicated synth the sounds were like high fidelity, real but not, if you grasp my meaning. I have a synth module in my Technics piano ensemble which sounds much richer than these sounds. Has the entire track been treated as whole? It seems that the mids are dominant but constrained at the same time and the real high edges on the synths has none of the presence I would expect when listening to this genre. I may well be out of touch with the modern sounds so don't take my observations too much to heart, the next listener might become rapturous over it. I wouldn't say it is tremendously spacious, I've heard wide, stereo over-driven guitar on this forum which implied a bigger spaciousness, and once again that's just my thoughts and may not be the consensus. It's a pleasant enough tune, I always find with this kind of music I usually nod off midway through the second track of an album, and get woken by the sudden silence when it ends. Thant's not a dislike or boredom, it simply chills me to that extent.

All the best

Tim

Thanks for your comment. It's good to hear an opinion from someone who was not involved in the process.
I tend to overdo the stuff, like cutting high frequency from the synth in this case.

I updated the file on soundcloud, the attached file is the same that Tim's reaction is based upon.
