Hello,
I am looking for audio editing software that will do the following things:

- read or copy an audio CD onto the harddrive in a digital file format (what
types of files? .wav, mps, other?)
- delet/insert track numbers anywhere within the file
- move or reorder tracks from a multi-track file or from multiple files
- build a new master file from tracks sleeted from multiple source files
- write a selected audio file, or sequence of tracks from multiple files,
onto a CD-RW or into a wav, mp3, or other output file format
- play the tracks being edited so that you can hear them while editing
- provide some graphical representation (timeline?) of what is being edited
- offer some sort of filtering or pitch editing feature
- also, it would be nice to be able to record a live analog input directly
into the PC and store it in a digital file form (wav, mp3, other)

Can anyone recommend a good piece of software that can handle all/most of these things?

Thanks!

I was going to suggest the same thing.

Sound Forge 5.0

or

WaveLab
