I'm looking for a versatile quality vocal mic. I will be recording both black metal growl and softer singing. I'm gonna try to keep the budget at around max 200$. Any suggestions?
Too bad you don't have more money... $200 isn't very much for a mic... it limits you choices to mosty cheap Chinese budget type mics... or a dynamic mic... if that's all the money I had, I'd most likely go for a good used/secondhand dynamic mic.Decay said:I'm looking for a versatile quality vocal mic. Say you had decided to save your pennies from the original $200 and waited until you could buy a mic that was the next step up from a Chinese-made mic, what would be your choice for a good vocal mic?

Yes, it very well could be a better choice for you... dynamic mics don't pickup as much background/room niose as condenser mics. I love dynamic mics.Decay said:And whats wrong with dynamic mics? I don't think I want to pick up any room ambience or such since I don't have a mic booth, would this make dynamic mics a better choice for me?
You might check out one of these... http://www.americanmusical.com/item--i-ELE-ND767A--brand-82.html ...it's in your budget and I've read some like it better than a SM58.I like mine...but don't have a lot to compair it to.It sounds much better on vocals (growl/singing/talking)than my sm57's,but kinda sucks on my guitar cab. It doesn't have to be the greatest mic in the world, but if it's really necessary I'll probably be able to stretch my budget to 300+.
Is the Studio Projects TB1 a good choice? What about an SM58? And whats wrong with dynamic mics? I don't think I want to pick up any room ambience or such since I don't have a mic booth, would this make dynamic mics a better choice for me?
