I'm looking for a versatile quality vocal mic. I will be recording both black metal growl and softer singing. I'm gonna try to keep the budget at around max 200$. Any suggestions?

Too bad you don't have more money... $200 isn't very much for a mic... it limits you choices to mosty cheap Chinese budget type mics... or a dynamic mic... if that's all the money I had, I'd most likely go for a good used/secondhand dynamic mic.Decay said:

Vocal Mic under 200 $
I was able to get a Shure KSM32 off ebay for just a little over that (220) and have heard that the KSM 27 is less and an excellant mic also. Sounds like it may be a bit warmer than the 32. These are good american made multi use fairly flat mics I think. At least thats been my experience with the KSM 32. They should also hold there value very well. Might keep yer eyes peeled on ebay for one.

There are some higher quality Chinese mics, as well as some from other countries, in the $200 to $700 range, that most would agree are better overall for your application - a versatile vocal mic.

Ok. I see the tendency here... It doesn't have to be the greatest mic in the world, but if it's really necessary I'll probably be able to stretch my budget to 300+.
Is the Studio Projects TB1 a good choice? What about an SM58? And whats wrong with dynamic mics? I don't think I want to pick up any room ambience or such since I don't have a mic booth, would this make dynamic mics a better choice for me?

My point was that I was wondering what is the next step up in mic class.
My most expensive mic is an AKG 535EB followed by a Rode NT1. I just bought a MXL V67G and I am liking it so far but am interested in the next step up in mic class.

I used an AKG C3000B. It does a really good job for $300.

You might check out one of these... http://www.americanmusical.com/item--i-ELE-ND767A--brand-82.html ...it's in your budget and I've read some like it better than a SM58.I like mine...but don't have a lot to compair it to.It sounds much better on vocals (growl/singing/talking)than my sm57's,but kinda sucks on my guitar cab.
