Looking for a Steve Hackett/Allan Holdsworth sound...

I don't necessarily want to spend the money on a Gibson or Carvin and I know pedals, technique, and other gear play a part. But does anyone have any experience of a certain guitar make/makes that come close to the Hackett/Holdsworth type of sound? Looking for those melodious/choral tones, thanks.

maybe theyre using rack systems with a lot of eq. pre-distortion eq can make a lot of difference in the nature of your distortion. then you need post eq to boost what you cut usually lows and highs.

if theyre just using pedals then i bet some of them are eq pedals.

guitars and pickups shouldnt matter as much as your distorion characteristics as long as you use humbuckers and your guitars dont suck. i used to have a rack system and compression is an important part of it as well. i used compression before and after the distorion.

honestly, these two guys...

are so extraordinary...

no matter what rig they played, you would recognize them....
which should illuminate your search for tone.

back to gear:

look at the best songs you like by both artists..

research what gear they used.....

and buy it.

and maybe, just maybe, you will be in the ballpark.
but, YMMV

he used mesas for a while...

but he also used marshalls...

and solid state Pierce...

and digital yamahas....

and hughes and kettners...

and carvin...

and a vox ac 30....

and a Johnson (SS)....

really, it doesn't even matter what he uses.

Yes the eq section of that pedal is in the booster which then goes to the distortion

pre distortion eq just like i said

get this pedal
