I'm leaning towards a USB 2.0 mixer/interface. I'm not even sure if i will be able to word this correctly, but i'll give it a try.

I want full computer connectivity, i want a 4-8 channel mixer that is able to route into a DAW and route back to the mixer for hands-on mixing. Or possibly a control surface with 4-8 inputs, at least 2 with phantom power. I hope that's possible without spending an exorbitant amount of money.

If it is possible, which models/makes would be the recommended standard for nice recording quality? I'm not a total newb to recording, but i haven't had much practice with a mixer.

I was hoping to keep it around $200-$300. However, I am open to suggestions.

most USB mixers in that price range will only send stereo bus into a DAW.

Ok, so which mixers will let me do what i'm asking? I know i may be asking alot, but i'm willing to comprimise on price as long as i get the features i'm looking for.

I know the Allen&Heath 16 track will let me do what i want but that is a tad out of my price range, so is there any way we can keep it in between my original price range and the $2k for the A&H model?

Also, as for sending the stero bus into the DAW, this basically means i plug in my mics/instruments and submix on the mixer and a mixed version is routed to the DAW?

Thanks for the responses guys!

The Zoom R16 sounds like it's exactly what you want, but it's 400, never seen it for less either. Nice little piece of gear too though. Worth saving a few pennies, cut out the Starbucks, bag lunches. That kinda thing. 8 inputs, 2 have phantom. Thank me later, actually if you see a great deal lemme know, you can link 2 of these things together.

That is perfect! I also love how it's a standalone portable recorder that can run on AA batteries, and can be synced to another R16 for double the inputs (awesome expandability)! Thanks alot Buzzard Bass!

Unfortunately i live outside of the U.S right now, which means everything has a nice price hike on it. I've seen the R16 at my local music shop, but was more interested by the Yamaha MW series of USB mixers they have. However, if i run into a deal online i will certainly point you in that direction.

*Edit*

At first i was hoping for something with more knobs and such, but sacrificing a few knobs to save a few dollars (won in my case) is perfectly ok with me. +rep to you!

Korg d12 track mixer, it was my first and it did the job and its not too expensive
