I'm trying to figure out how to start planning the conversion of my 9x12 spare bedroom into a decent room for mixing. My recording is primarily live, on-location, so I'm not trying to design an iso booth or a perfect environment for recording instruments, etc.
Is there a good resource for leading someone through the process of understanding the room's basic acoustics, determining what treatments are needed, what tools are needed to do this, and cost effective ways to make it all happen?
Here is the planned equipment for this operation if it means anything.
- Alesis HD24 recorder
- Alesis ADAT (blackface) recorder (standby if needed)
- Event PS-6 monitors
- Yamaha 24 channel board
- TBD compressors, EQ's, FX processors, patchbays (any ideas on what is the best combination for $500?)
- PC running Cakewalk SONAR w/ Echo MIA audio card; CD-R/W
(I hope with this setup to have the capability of mixing either analog or with the PC; haven't got enough experience yet to decide which way will work best for me, and the mixer and SONAR have been provided by the church where I will be doing most of the recording...)
I appreciate any input on this.
