Hello forum. I'm new here and did a bit of searching, but couldn't find a great answer for what I'm looking for.

I have Presonus Studio One and a Firestudio mobile that I do most of my recording on, but due to my living situation I am unable to record vocals in the area near my computer.

I'm looking for a cheap digital 4 track that would allow me to upload the work I have finished on my home setup, record vocals in a different area on a portable machine, then bring back the vocal wav files and put them back in Studio One for processing.

I've been looking at Tascam's DR-40, but I've read the preamp is really weak. It kind of sucks, because I just need a bare bones portable device with no additional effects or anything, just an xlr input and space to add tracks. Most I've looked at have a ton of extras I'll never use, and I'm not in a situation to pay for that.

I'm sure I'll need more than 4 tracks, but I figure I can use several different song files and have as many tracks as space will allow.

Any recommendations?

Thanks for any help guys! Ps. I'm using a SM-58 mic.

The Zoom H4N may well be your puppet. And it leaves you future scope, even though you only want to do one thing with it at the moment.
