techoplayer, I could be wrong but I don't think I will need NR for 2 track at 15 ips, no? Maybe I'm wrong.

No, you don't need NR, and I don't suggest its needed, but its nice to have the option....... I know a lot of folks on this forum are opposed to NR due to artifacts, pumping, etc. I have found it to be useful at times, especially since I have some age (and volume) induced hi frequency hearing loss which causes me to jack the hi frequencies to suit my listening tastes, and thus the noise increases. A 16 year old would run away with his ears covered!! :D

Around the $500-$600 or less range, what would be your top three suggestions?

No takers? I've heard the TASCAM 32 mentioned a lot on here in the past and am guessing that would be one option to look at. Any others in this price range I may want to look for?

there's no such thing as "price range" really. It's like a gigantimonious junk yard where you can find some real great stuff. How much it'll cost you is almost irrelevant to the the value of the "item". You just never know. Gotta look around. Check craigslist often (like every day :) ) , here are couple examples in my area:
mx5050 for seventy five bucks
Otari 5050 1/2" 4 track for three hundred some bucks (i'm not sure what's the deal there)
Teac 25-2 for three hundred bucks (actually may be a great machine, but that's more on "exotic" side of the story, I suppose :D )
This guy (or guys) wants to make you happy on xmass morning for a grand , saying that his mx5050 is perfect. can be the same deal as 75 bucks deal above :D , but maybe not.... :p , go figure.
but locally you have a chance to go and check it out.
E-Bay is a lotto. You just take a chance.
********
p.s. Tascam 32 is cool as it gets, imo... it's also ugly enough to be respected, I'd say ...

good luck

Seeker of Rock: TASCAM 32 and TASCAM 22-2, in no particular order. Hell, get both! ;)
