I don't know if Chris Hargrove (handle: Mixmaster) comes and visits here anymore - but back in the day, he and I wandered off this weird side alley of working on this oddball piece together. I started it w/ just the piano and Chris took that file and ran with it. He added the percussion/drums - soaring 80s guitar work etc ... and sent it back to me. I then added some of the other things - like the sax in the center - a few strings and synths of my own.

We wound up with something I can only call "Rock Electronica" - an eclectic mix of styles.

The thing about synths, though - is they have a NEED FOR SPEED - and by that, I mean they sound better loud. One catches all the weird sonic nuances that are present in electronic sounds. Accordingly, though I'm always reticent when applying limiting to any mix, wary of making it sound unnatural? There is nothing natural about a synth, so crank that sucker up!

Too much?

:D

Other than that what sounds like a snare (I don't think it is, but it is used as one) has a bit of harshness, pull that down a touch. I liked it very much. Hopefully some of the other techno guys listen and are inspired to be more adventurous. very good composition, arrangement and mix!

I'll have to find it first. :D

Chris sent a mish mosh of 8 or so tracks of percussion. Everything from the steam sounds to garbled birds making dying noises. I don't have control specifically over that sound. I can take whatever track it is on down a bit, though. I'll check out which is was. It actually could be a couple tracks layered in.

Thanks Dave!
