are cheap monitors worth the buy?
there are a pair of m-audio monitors for $99
should i get them? im recording drums, vocals, bass, guitar, etc. and we just want to hear ourselves while we record...

yes or no

Thanks for all the help...

If you have absolutely nothing else to listen on, okay... but generally they aren't. Especially those super cheapo monitors like the ROland MA8s. They hare hardly monitors and more just computer speakers with different wording on the box. If you are looking at those M-Audio Studio Whatever 3's, don't bother. Their low end drops off at 100hz... aka, kick drum, what kick drum?

If I understand you correctly and you want to use them to play along to as you record new tracks, you'd be better off to use headphones because they won't bleed into the mic's.... monitors are generally for the mixing stage, and unfortunately these ones probably aren't very good for that either.

Wait, you bought a DW but you want to cheap out on recording gear? What gives!

If you just want to hear yourself while you record, do you have a PA or anything? (I assume you do if you've got a band), but for the mastering its best to have some quality monitors, as said, monitors in the $100 are worthless.
