Just wondering which would be the preferred mic for a single(mono) drum overhead in a studio live setting. (recording whole band at once, single overhead over drummers head, kick and snare both close mic'd)

music = heavy + loud

SDC vs. LDC ?

These are my choices so far that are within budget:

1) MXL 603/ ADK SC1 (same mic?)
2) MXL 604 (two caps and a pad)
3) MXL 2003
4) Audix F15
5) other priced around $80 or less

and no, I can't do a stereo pair.....sorry. We've been using a modded PZM for awhile and it's worked fine, but is dying a slow death, and I'm assuming one of the above mics would yield a better sound.

??
