Hello everyone,

First off sorry about not being around much I ended up getting and being fired from Charity work (long story :P) So lately I've been dedicating a lot of time to publicity and cleaning my house (which is by far the more challenging :P) but after spending a weekend at my mothers house I was out shopping with her and she needed an external HDD, and jokingly I said grab me one too. She didn't really see the humour and bought me a 640Gb Hdd So I've copied all my old studio files to it and am using the new one as my studio drive and my Old 320 as a time machine (Mac Backup)

Heres the question folks,

With all this space I don't know what to do with I've decided I want the most organised studio HDD ever, (a daunting task I must say as I just throw everything into folders and search when I loose something) So what would you all suggest would be the best way to organise my entire studio portfolio, active sessions, archive, various presets, software backups etc.

I use two main softwares cubase for serious work and reason as a play thing.

Any suggestions?

So you're on a Mac? Make folders for everything and color-code the folders by right-clicking on them and selecting a color. Be very specific with your folder/file naming too. I think that's about as much as you can do unless you wanted to buy a program that assists you in organizing your files. The rest is up to you to come up with an organization system that works for you. Here's a tip: have only two to four main folders in which everything else is sorted into. These two to four main folders can be pretty broad. For example: Personal Music, Clients' Music, Band Music, etc. Inside each of those folders you can have more specific groupings such as: Active, Finished, Ideas, Lyrics, Demos, Covers, etc.

That's just the way I do it. Hope it works for you!

The Colour Codings not a bad Idea, Red - Archive, Blue Active etc, and change as apropriate, never really used the colours function tbh :P

Yeah, I haven't used it much until lately since I've been doing some bigger projects. It really helps!
