Hello all,

Have not posted anything in about 6 months. I spent too much time with the acoustic guitar.

Anyways, I picked up my nice new "Les Paul" copy that I got for Xmas and recorded the basics of a song that's been going round in my head for a few months.

Cold Water

**Known Issues**
The verse vocals are weak...
The chorus vocals are distorted....
The song is only half done....

**Would like comments on**
My vocal style (regarding the bridge chorus)
The individual levels (e.g Drums vs guitar)
((The level of guitar always gets me stuck))
Eh, well, Anything else.

Tell me that you think.
Thanks for listening,
Paul

instrument levels seem ok..

the vocals at first sounded like a synth, or something to me. I can't understand the lyrics at all...even the distorted chorus.

seems like a good enuff tune...musically, and all. The vocals are the weak link at this point, it seems.

I'll let the local "drum nazis" tell ya about the drums...;)

mixmkr - Basically the vocals are wrong, I have a habit of not writing them down and when I do a take my mind goes blank (so I sing any old s**t).

Do you meam you can't understand the lyrics or the vocals?????

Also I can't drum to save a mouse so (yes that is a drum pattern)

kinda thinking that vocals and lyrics might be related, I'll sheepishly say that I couldn't understand either:p

in other words...what are you singing? I can't understand the words coming out of your mouth:eek:

I will re=record later today or tormorrow with the correct lyrics.
It could also be that I'm from Central Scotland and my accent is masking the words (Or that my singing is terrible).

Even I can't understand (the vocals of) some of the bands from the UK (e.g Manic Street Preachers).

OK, I have done some more work on this, Totally redone the verse (only 1 so far). The bridge still needs reworking though.

Let me know what you all think.

The song is at the same URL as above.

Thanks,
Paul

I like the song man its great. Your vocals sound a bit like David Gray in places which is cool. the whole thing sounds a little muffled to me though, . the bass geetar seems muffly the most, the notes kinda just smear into the the low end of the geetars. Maybe take some lows off the geetars around 100hz or so and boost a little at about 10-15k for some air on those vox.

Sounds good tho.

Actually is there a bass at all? or am I just hearing the low end of the geetars? :p Doh I hope there's a bass or I'll feel silly :D

IanW-UK - Thanks for your comment , It's always nice to hear from a fellow brit :)

No bass yet I'm afraid and I think the muffled sound is caused by me not using mastering software very well because the guitars have a high-pass on them about starting at 120hz.

damn!! I erm was listening on pc speakers and ermm.. i'm drunk and............. oh nevermind :p

i dig the effects on the vox, but they seem to be inconsistent, volume wise. I dont know what mic you have, but the vox are boomy. You might have sang to close to the mic.

Music wise, I like this laid-back feel.

The guitar has a nice natural sound to it. and its played smooth. The vocals need up and brighter. I like the flow of the arrangement. Glad to see getting back into it.
