Hi, I'm a drummer and know little about guitars amps. Our guitar player is having trouble with the life (and quality) of the tubes in his amp. His amp is a Fender. I think it's a Delux Reverb amp with one 12" speaker. Can anyone suggest a brand of tube(s) that have a longer life or are more rugged? Sincere Thanks, Don

Remember that when replacing power tubes your amp must be biased each time. Nothing will burn out tubes faster than an improperly biased amp.
As for Power tubes tell your guitar player to try a 6L6 or a 5881 in place of the 6V6's he might like the extra head room. But your amp must Biased before using them.

Thanks, Double

Thanks Double, I doubt that he knows anything about biasing his amp as he's not the technical type. He's more the type to go to Guitar Center and ask for the least expensive tube, cables, strings etc. One more question. If he uses the same tubes that came stock in his amp would he still have to have it biased? Many Thanks, Don

Do not do that. This is a very good way to blow up a power transformer, and the power tranny is the single most expensive component of an amplifier.
