Hi,

Has anyone had any experience with long cable lengths using FireWire? I've found a 10m standard cable (here) and a 4.5m repeater cable (here ) that would give me the distance I need. Obviously I'm concerned about increased latency/loss of audio quality.

I'll be running a PreSonus FirePod into a PC about 12-14metres (approx. 40ft) away.

Any thoughts on this would be appreciated!

The link for that repeater cable answers your question.

FireWire Repeater Cable for extending the cable length between FireWire devices over distances greater than the IEEE 1394 specified limit of 4.5m
Up to 10 extension cables can be connected for a maximum distances of 49.5m (at the longer distances your FireWire device must be self-powered)

If the firepod is selfpowered(i have no idea), then i probably wouldn't worry about it. But don't take my word for it.

I wouldn't worry about it. I'm using about a 10m cable right now on one device and it's fine.
