Check the tuning on the slide, pull it back and/or thin it out some.
For me with a song like that, if the drums are going to be that basic I'd pull that straight feel' back and go more with the acoustic picking things.
Just curious- We do the song with a four chord coming down off the five in turn around on the chorus. Frankly I don't even know which is the 'proper' version.. :)

I love that old tune, I've always heard it in a slow ballad form though. It sort of sounds like its pushing the tempo with that drumbeat, the dobro intonation might be a bit off-pretty good version though..

ok...did a re-mix....see what ya think now:D

Sounds good Jay, there's a bit of a vocal spike (just volume) in the second chorus and it's almost there in the third. Maybe just pull the faders down there. The rest of the mix sounds good, your buddy Dale Bryant sounds a lot like you with the big country voice... I like the way the arpeggio guitar plays a kind of lead throughout the song. :D

Thanks man, i appreciate the comments, i've been tweaking his vocals all evening(automation, comps, limiters) he's kinda new at the mic and its been a real challenge to even him out.....not saying that its bad, just not even. i found the spike after i mixed it down, somehow it got by me:confused: He is a real pleasure to work with, we can sing together just fine on stage.....its just the studio stuff that throws us off:D

That's shaping up really nice. Dale's tone and style is nailing it. I love hearing the good back to basics stuff. ;)

Nice job. Sounds quite good.

I've always loved this song. Love The Band's version.

Rootsy sounding. Good rhythmic feel and vocals. The tuning was already mentioned. The slide sounds too far to the right to me... kind of outside the mix.

I would suggest panning the left guit to the right a tad and nestle in behind the slide and the slide just a tad to the left...it would maybe intertwine them more...? But what do I know...

Nice relaxed playing and story telling guys...Vocals fit nicely, but I do miss your voice jay..;)

I suggest boosting the lead vox a bit, I find myself struggling to hear the words.

Other than that, it sounds great. Love the harmonica.

Wow. Man, I love this! The opening is fantastic. Is it more up-tempo than the original? Maybe it's jsut the drum beat, either way, it doesn't detract from it.

I honestly don't think I could fault this in any way. What else you got?

Wow....Thanks man!!!:D

One of my favorites, and you boys've done it justice for sure. Definitely a unique choice on the tempo. It grew on me during the second listening.

One thing that popped out at me was with the drums-- there seemed to be little level changes and compression artifacts or something somehow in there, at least in my HP's laptop speakers. (I'm coming from doing my jazz band's drummer with OH's, and the only thing I have to do is throw on a tiny bit of levelling and then decide where to pan the oh's, so my taste runs to minimal) Do you have things side-chained or gated or anything fancy on the drums?

On the other hand, I'd love to hear a fun re-mix that plays with the drums, maybe allowing some of the snare hits to do a haunting reverby thing here and there to get that whole dark dank appalachian graveyard feel-- as a compliment to that excellent wailing sound the harmonica player is getting. It might tie the drums to the harp playing.

At any rate, it's songs like this that make me glad when I stop in the clinic. :D Keep it up!
