How the hell do i automate plug ins. From what the manual said it should work in the same way recording fader and pan movements does, arm the mixer automation 1-16 and record. But it doesnt. Will i have to use hyper drwa and find out the midi channel for my eq level or is there a quicker way?

version 4.5 but i havent got around to putting 4.81 on there.

You're recording automation in the arrange window? On a track set to "audio playback 1-16?"

I don't know much beyond what's in that thread linked to in my previous post. If you've tried all that and still have probs, you'll have to give more detail about what you're doing.

I think the problem was i was using the environment window not the mixer iwndow. It works fine if i open the plug-in via the mixer window. Any idea why i cant do this from environmnet. Is it possible to use hyper draw to automate plug-ins?

Not sure what you mean. The most common mixer, at least to me, IS the environment- the "audio environment." If you open an environment window, there's a little area over to the left where you can select *which* environment you want, like audio, global etc.

There are three mixers. Track mixer, audio environment, and GM/GS/XG mixer. As stated in that thread, you can't automate inserts in the Track mixer, so I suspect that is what you were doing wrong.

Never tried hyperdraw with inserts. Have you tried http://community.sonikmatter.com/emagic/ultimatebb.php

As always, but especially at that site, be sure to search before posting.

Yeah up untill now i have been using the audio layer of the environment, but it wont let me automate anything apart from levels and pans. I've been recording playback 1-16 when trying to automate but plugin parameters do get recorded. However the track mixer has been automating everything. The only problem im having with that now is changeing the automation. Ive got selected automation write over thingy but it kkeps trying to jump back to other settings when i stop moving the padder or something so ive just had to delete the automation midi file thing and start again every time.

For plugins- you can select the track you want to automate, start recording, move your knobs, then go to view/hyperdraw/autodefine and then drag the track to make it taller so you can see the hyperdraw infos. Then you can edit to refine the automation. One thing I've learned the hard way is that the plugins have a hierarchy as to where they are in the chain and what cc can be used- if your not careful you will find that when trying to automate a plugin- a native logic plugin might respond instead (or something like that). Just make sure to read about this in the manual so you'll be sorted before it gets all skrewed up!

I suspect it keeps trying to jump back to other settings because you're not erasing them- you're only erasing/modifying automation data as you're recording and once you release the mouse(or hyper draw), the modification ends at that point in the song. Any automation that occurs at a later point is retained.

"Mixer Automation Parameters" control how automation data is updated. Read about this on page 6-87 of the manual. Also check out "Erasing Recorded Fader Movements" on page 6-89.
