Hi Guys !!!

I have been looking at desiging a studio for recording.

I am stuck for space for creating a studio (for the house has family commitments). I have come up with the idea of building a studio in the loft of the house.

Just roughly (figuring the size house rooms in the house), I think I have 21ft by 23 ft space in the loft, but obvioulsy I can only stand up in a certain area.

Things I have need to consider

* Heating / Cooling

* Soundproofing - (im part of a semi detatched house, as well as having children) - need to block all sound out. What materials to use, also need to consider floorign and walling

Are the there certain rules and regulations within the UK, with electrics, foundation work, heating, etc ...

Currently in the loft, there are no windows, and just joists for that support the roof. Is there was of still keeping the roof up, by removing certain joists or moving them to create an open space ???

Anyone have any ideas

Many thanks

Dom

Dom,

I've done a lot of recording in the lofts of houses, and even started to convert a loft for a studio.

Your main problem will be with moving amplifiers up and down the stairs. Also, things like power will be a problem.

As for soundproofing. Well, as long as you have fiberglass all around you, and you don't record at full volume, then the noise shouldn't be too much.

Consider things like power as well. I'd really recommend that you run a separate ring up to the loft. The question is, what is your maximum power usage etc.

I started designing a studio for a farmhouse in west wales, designing it really made me think about the things that in the past i forgot about. Have a read of my thoughts if you like... it's on my website under "plans"

good luck
