I just finished mixing and mastering for a local band and would love to hear some feedback from others on the mix.

BTW, The drummer had a $40 PULSE snare drum and he used a Pearl Export with Really Old Heads......

Please let me know what you guys think!!

Very nice. What kind of effects do you have on the voice. that is really cool sounding.

I think there's a tiny delay on the snare that's not working too well. Maybe that's just the way the snare is, but it sounds like there's quite a bit of comb filtering going on, maybe due to a delay, or mic bleed. The vocals just need a little bit more of something. They sound a bit too "dry" and disconnected from the mix. Some layering, a delay, more reverb, something to get it working in the mix. The low end of the kick drum is lost in the bass and guitars. A little compression on the bass keyed from the kick should bring some of that low end out.

Aside from that, it sounds pretty awesome. Those were just some tiny nitpicks, which is what you need at this stage. The guitars sound especially good, although I would've used a tad less distortion for more clarity. Nice job though, sounds like you know what you're doing!

Nice work.

My biggest beef if I had to pick one is the vocal IN PLACES...pops out too much - like at :29 seconds in...perfect example. There are some others. It's a volume thing, though...manually enveloping it down would probably sound better than smashing it with a compressor.

The kick could come up some...maybe boost the bass at 400Hz a touch when you turn the kick up...I mean, IF you turn the kick up, lol. Pretty arrogant of me to assume you'll take my advice.

Which reminds me...are you done with this, or can you still tweak it?

Man, those guys listened to a LOT of Green Day...:D The dual leads remind me of Maiden, lol.

Thanks everyone for your feedback (especially IronFlippy and chrisharris for the In-Depth Crituqe)

I agree with ironflippy, the snare definitely sounds funky and the bass drum could use just a slight boost in the low end. Probably just 2, maybe 3 db.

like chris said--- the vocals jump out too much sometimes. A little automation would go a long way.

I personally felt like the record sound at the beginning was a little loud.

I did the best I could with what I had to work with, to get them sounding as best as possible. Like I said before, the snare is a $40 PULSE Metal Piccolo snare, and he had really beat up heads on the entire set.........

I like the guitar sound, it fits the music...

How did you recorded guitars?

Cheers!

I just listened again and I think the weirdness of the snare is actually just from the mp3 compression or the stream.

Yea, the compression does make it sound a little worse. But The snare isn't very good in general......

Very pop-rock ala Green Day. Very easy to like this tune. The mix items have been previously mentioned. Wouldn't know it was a pod - works well on the guitars.....:D

I love the PODxt for guitar tones. If you know how to tweek it just right, you can fool pretty much everyone into thinking it is a really nice tube amp.

It sound pretty good. Personally I would "fatten' up" the snare a little and add some kind of FX to the voice so it doesnt sound so dry. The guitars are great. Overall, very good mix.
