Hey gang...

Long time no talk! Hope you had a great Christmas! I've been hip deep in church and preparations for tearing out my kitchen on Thursday morning! Yow...

Kind of a little minor "heart on my sleeve" stuff...
With all the goings on at church these days, I've been feeling, well, especially inspired lately. And I got this song that we do in our praise service in my head yestrday, and it wouldn't budge all day. I took that as a hint that I needed to arrange and record it. So, I stayed up till 1AM last night doing just that. piano, strings, pads, guitar, fretless bass (yeah, the real one) and classical guitar solo, and oh yeah, 4 part vocal harmony. (*blush* Phil is not proud of his solo voice, be merciful)

Please, visit www.llarion.com and take a listen to Breathe, you'll find it on the main page under "Stupid Recording Studio Tricks, take III"

Did I do OK? Should I be doing more Christian music?

Thanks guys, and Happy New Year!

Music is really nice sounding, voice is also acceptable, mostly.Nice harmonies:D.I gotta be honest and say that Christian music gives me douche chills,I did not intend to be offensive, if I'm coming off that way ,I appologize. If it's any consolation my grandmother would love this stuff;)...but not King Diamond's grandmother:eek:

WISC,
No offense taken at all. I'm pretty new to the Christian music scene, and I'm notat all one of thsoe hypersensitive about my faith kind of guys... I appreciate the feedback!

jake-owa,
Get off the fence, man, how do you REALLY feel? :D

Nice! Good recoridng/performance. Stick that 57 up ur acoustic guitar! ha. Nonetheless, the direct acoustic guitar sounds pretty good already.

nice site there man. I enjoyed listening to the songs you have there. Amie was quite nice..
Interesting mix.. But I'm not really one to comment.

ZP,
Of course you're one to comment! You have two ears, that's the only prerequisite, man! :) Thanks for the listen! That guy Larry who came and cut Amie is coming for another visit in late January, so expect more then.. :)

A1A2,
Wow, sharp ear, how did you know I used a 57??

hey - i checked out the site too.

Breathe sounds pretty well recorded. Not the sorta stuff i or many people listen to.

The harmonies turned out pretty well.

Sounds like the concluding song of a 2nd rate movie - i'm not sure if thats a compliment..........

anyway - good job -

...LMAO:D thasssfunny!

Llarion,
Very nice jazzinator! Very pretty harmonies, and i love the sounds you got, as usual. The vocals arent as bad as you make them out to be.... .....appropriate for this genre. You sound as good or better than those guys you always see singing on Sunday morning Church shows. ...very nice work man:)

...and I dont even want to know what King Diamonds grandma would love:D

hey Llarion
I think you did OK and you should make more Christian music - seems to be your thing.
The song could be 4 my taste a little faster but it has nice harmonies, and the vocals are not so bad

cheers!

Llarion,

I have not had much time to hang out in the MP3 clinic but I realy enjoyed your jazzy intrumental stuff/ Heaven compilation a while back and just checked out your site.

I like the tasty fretless bass and "Breathe" is my favorite worship song right now. It is very passionate in a subdued way at least I croon it that way.... I could not call what I vocalize as singing....

Your site was very nice and I was wondering how you keep the cats from tearing any of your studio stuff (monitors especially)?

Also I wanted to say I appreciate your class and maturity regarding criticism of your music and not being judgemental of others differing spiritual views. I think we have more in common than I realized when I first came across your music here and I unintentionally started a bit of a debate.

Personally I think you excell more in the instrumental side from what I have heard but you sing much better than I can.

Peace,

Scott

Llarion, nice rendition. Sound's like a nice mix to my newbie ear's.
Joe Recorder :)

Thanks!!

yiordanaki,
Thanks! :) Though, I bet more people listen to this style than you may think, it amazed me how big the Christian/Praise/Worship genre was when I delved in a little...

Guernica,
Very much appreciated man! Thanks for the listen!

Groovejunkie,
From what I am told, the most popular arrangement of this song kicks it into high gear for the 2nd chorus with a driving half time beat, but I kinda felt like it wanted to stay tender and delicate... I probably7 will do some more, if for no other reaosn than for the vocal experience... :)

Scott,
Thanks man! The cats are all indoor critters and disarmed. So, no worries on that front, besides maybe peeing on the rug or something. :)

As far as criticism goes, I've been very critical of some people's music, and at great depth, thugh I endeavor to be constructive and positive-thinking about it. So, I'd better have thick skin myself. You can always learn from criticism, even if that criticism in and of itself is seemingly valueless or in poor taste.

As for judging other's views and beliefs, who am I to do so? Who is anyone to do that, really? One of my deepest personal sprirtual tenets is tolerance for others' beliefs. Since we're most likely not really going to find the absolute truth until we die, I figure I am no more learned than the spiritually ignorant, nor any less learned than the devoted scholar. It's what's in your heart and soul that counts. If you find spiritual peace from it, then whatever you believe must have some validity. My personal belief system allows for (and pretty much demands) the existence of faiths other than my own. This may step out of line with the letter of the law in my religion (I belong to a fairly liberal large Presbyterian church (www.fpc-stpete.org)), but it's important to me to acknowledge that what I believe personally may not in fact be utter truth, especially since my beliefs have changed over the years. (I'm a former Roman Catholic). I try to learn more about it every day.

Now, the *actions* you take based on those beliefs are another matter entirely, and I freely oppose some of those actions on the basis of violation of the laws of man in the process of acting on your beliefs. (This is how I can accept and yet disagree with extreme fundamentalist Islam, and condemn the actions of those who practice murder and terror in the name of their God. )

Anyway, for the moment, I agree with your assessment of my vocal abilities vs my instrumental. This pains me though, because I *so* love to sing. I hope to improve as I go. :)

Joe,
Thanks for checking in man, I appreciate the listen!!

Llarion,

Some good thoughts there.

My wife has promised twice to disarm our two indoor cats to appease me but refused to do so after she got what she wanted (new carpet and getting married).

Hey I wish I could sing as close to well as you...YOU DON'T WAN'T TO HEAR ME!

I may get around to finishing something to post to MP3 but it won't have my voice.
