Live vocals best sound

Hey guys I was just wondering how to get the best live vocal for recording home videos... Im going to make instrumentals with cubase and then sing along to them with a mic and an amp, but should i have a rack connected before the amp, like an equalizer and comrpessor, cuz i find sometimes when i sing along to music my low notes arent heard, and the high notes are not silky enough, what will solve this problem? any examples?

I can recommend a TC-Helicon processor. Great compressor and many other on-board effects. Not cheap but fantastic quality in my view. The VoiceLive 2 is used on all of the videos recorded in our studio here so you can hear it for yourself:
