Looking for a new vocal mic.
mostly looking at beta 58, audix om5, and sennheiser e845/e855. have also heard good things about electro-voice.
anyone have experience comparing these?
i've only got to try the beta 58 and om5 to this point and liked both.

thanks.

oh, and this is for male vocals. music is mix of latin, pop, and singer/songwriter.

Beta or even non beta 58. Watch a concert, you'll see one. I have an ev, senn, re 20 and many shures, for live it's almost always the beta

Audix OM5 - just an awesome mic. Must better then the Sm58 IMO - The grill want dent eather :)

SM58, the standard all around live vocal mic. Can't go wrong.

Not SM58 - you can go wrong, and much of the time SM58 is it. Sound has moved on!!

I personally love the Sennheiser E845. Very cool mic. Not used the Audix ones though, but I'd choose the 845 over a Beta 57. Another I have good experiences of is the Audio Technica AE3300 - the capsule from the AT4033 but a handheld condenser. Just be sure you use the onboard pad and high-pass if you have a loud male singer though!!!!!

Never been let down by an AKG dynamic either ... I think the one I have is the D3700 or something ... good for female vox but wouldn't be the top of my list for blokes.
