I'm going live and could someone who does electronic music (or someone who knows), tell me the list of the equipment I need to throw a gig. All I've got is my synths and CPU + software in my studio.

Thanks.

what kind of synths do you have?
do you have an external analog mixer?
if you dont want to gig with your computer (way too vulnerable), you'll need a hardware sequencer like the mpc2000 or the yamaha rm1x (works fine for me).

thats all

good luck,
Mark

I've got the Roland JX-305 Groovesynth which is good especially for live play. And, a Roland JP-8000 coming up. But no mixer. What would be a good mixer?
I mostly use powerful software. I'll look into those hardware sequencers.
Thanks.

Go for the JP8000, this is a great synth!
If you only have 2 synths and a computer, you can take a look at the very cheap Behringer 10track pult.

cheers,
Mark

U mean the MXB1002? Sorry, don't lash at me, but I've never used HD sequencer or mixers.. I've always managed with software secuencers, synths and Sound Forge. Check my music if u wish...

hi!

I suggest to transfer your song from your pc to the 305 via midi. Then simply plug the analog outs of your 2 keyboards into the mixer and VOLLGAS!!!
If you use software synths, then it's quite hard...

I use an old studiomaster 20-8-2 at home and a small behringer eurorack MX802A for gigging. It has 4 mono in's with line/mic and 2 stereo in's. All channels have lo, mid, high eq's, 2 aux-sends (1 fixed to pre- and 1 fixed to postfader) it sounds ok, and should work fine for a small home studio.

So I convert the songs which are .wav to .mid and direct them to my synth? And then direct them from my synth to the mixer?

no, you cant convert wave to midi!
Midi is a protokoll that emulates a keybord or knob action.
Wave is digital sound.
what software are you working with to create your music?

Buy a good laptop. If you have the resources (e.g. other musicians, with their own equipment) you can rearrange your songs for live play to make it work.

hi gidge!
There are .wav to midi converters
I've tried one of them, and they are not for converting a whole song into midi, but fine for whistle a melody into your pocket recorder and automatically converting this at home.
I can't imagine that a program is able to convert a complete song with guitar, bass, drum, synth, bongos to midi.
All in all this would be the wrong way, and never sounds the same as the original, i think.

If clubzeroy uses his 305, at least these parts are midi!
To go for a notebook is ok, but consider the price: You need a strong notebook and a PCMCIA - audio card in addition.
I knew a few guys who uses such cards (Christian Fennesz and Werner Dafeldecker) on their Apple Notebooks - i can ask them what to pay attention for, if you like...
But be aware: These things are quite expensive!

Maybe the best way for U is to buy a used cheap sampler, the JP8000 and a mixer and rearrange your tracks for external equipment

Actually, I believe there are excellent USB and firewire audio interfaces which will work with many new laptops. You probably don't need more than 2-4 outputs for a live rig.

Ok, thanks. I was thinking I make a version of the song without the melodies which are played with my synth and just play them live on the playback.
