ok how about this... if you only had two channels to record a live show (in a loud club) how would you do it? any preference on mics. i have been running off the board mix but am missing that "live sound". until i decide on what new outboard pre's and interface i would like to get a better feel on these recordings.
Thanks

 One way, not the only way, is if the house mixer has direct outs on each channel, run a line from them to your own mixer, build a mix to your 2trkr. You have to use headphones to do this, also one can do as mentioned above, but go in a multitracker, then build mix later in your own studio. Add some effects for the live sound you want.

I know exactly what you mean. I've done it with a pair of AKG C-1000's (you don't think I'd take the Neumanns to a bar, do you?)set up where the front of house mixer was located. It sounded the way we actually sounded in the room.

I've done the same thing with a pair of MXL-1006s. THese mics fed one Minidisk recorder, and I took another MD that got a feed from the FOH desk. At home I re-recorded the 2 versions of the recording into my computer, synced the two files with n-track, and mixed to taste.
The result was more than satisfactory

One of the songs is still on my Nowhere Radio page, if you want to hear how it sounded like:

"Break Your Heart".
