Hello all,

I'm entending to record a live show on 16 tracks with 2 MOTU896HD.
The console that will be used for the live is an Allen & Heath GL2200.

I was wondering if someone has ever tried to record a live show with MOTU896HD because my question is the following ...

Considering that :

-Direct outputs of the console are postEQ only, so I don't wan't to use them to feed the MOTU.
-Inserts of the console might be used so I prefer to keep this as the last solution.
-I don't have any splitters to split the signal PRE-Everything and then feed the MOTU and the console after the split

--> the only option I see is to use the MOTU 8 outputs and then feed the console strips... but as there will be 2 preamps in the audio path (the MOTU preamp and the console preamp), I'm wondering if there wouldn't be a problem of noise and a problem of handling the live mix ...

What do you think guys ?

One thought would be to handle the live mix via the MOTU solely. I think it has the CueMix software that can handle 4 submixes (if I'm not mistaken). It might be quite a challenge using the software, but you may be able to do it that way as well. Just a thought, probably not the best route to go though.

No, doing a live mix via a software is pretty difficult ... The mix must be done with the console ...

Not sure if you have the cables for it, but couldn't you go into the console Line In's? You would have to get XLR to 1/4" cables to go from the MOTU to the console, but you could probably pick up a snake of 8 like that for fairly cheap. In the MOTU, you could just set up the ins to go directly to their own outs, and you should be set.

That should work, another option is simple passive splits, 1 FXLR to 2 MXLR. They should be pretty cheap. Buy an XLR-1/4" snake as well, or beg/borrow/steal enough mic cables to to hit your mixer.

I would make the decision based on whether this is a one-off, or will be something you do in the future as well. If it's a one-off, just try to do it the way cawhite said. The splits won't be a good investment if it's a one-off, an XLR-1/4" snake is never a bad thing to have.
