In the swamps of Jersey
I originally posted this in the MIC form. I did not get anthing helpful so I thought I try this form.
I just got a call to do a remote live recoring of a jazz group I sometimes work with. Here is the set-up, Piano, upright bass, small drum set (played with brushes) and 3 vocals up front (2 women 1 man)
The recording will take place at the home (living room) of one of the performers to a small auidence. The home has a beautiful grand piano. It's going to be tight.
I'll be recording on to 1 DA38 w/ an Alesis Studio 24 mixer. So I can go each channel to a track. (8 tracks) I have a 2 channel pre (DMP3)
The mics I have to work with are
2 MXL 603's
SP B1
MXL V67G
AT 3035
Sennheiser 603e
SM57
AT4033 (well it's not mine but I can borrow it)
2 MXL MCA SP 1 (yea I know, use them to hold the door open)
I have a couple ideas of what mics I would use where but I'd like to hear from you guys.
As always thanks for the help.
Tom

Is this live like a performance before an audience? Will the vocalists have a dynamic mic each? If so here's what I'd do. I'd put the 603's in X-Y in the piano. I'd put the V67 over the drums and the C-1 about 3' out in front of the kit in front of the kick. I'd put the 3035 out about 18" from the top of the trble side F hole on the stand up bass.
1- C-1 in front of kick
2- V67 overhead
3- 3035 on bass
4- 603 piano L
5-603 piano R
6-Vox 1
7-Vox 2
8-V0x 3
