Little different sound for me - how did I do?

Hey,

I just recorded a new one of mine. It's a little different than my usual stuff - its way more mellow and melodic. I tried to go for a certain feel with a lot of reverb and delay. I was also a bit worried cause most of the song is electric guitar, and all of it is with a version 1 POD.

Anyway, the song is called "It Covers Me" and it should be on the top of this page: http://www.soundclick.com/bands/2/feelslikefridaymusic.htm

Thanks for listening!

Very good guitar tone. Cool song. I liked it. I think the delay/verb is cool. Different, and very cool sounding. Nice tune.

Thanks! Too bad I have no idea what tone that was in the POD. I just turn knobs till it sounds ok - but at least I have it saved as a preset.

I've been listening some more, and I'm pretty impressed with this little red bean-shaped thing on my desk. The tone is pretty good in this one. I was playing around on some stuff at Guitar Center today, and man - I need a tube amp with a std. telecaster. Too bad I can't afford a Vox AC30 - I dig the chimey thing. That's my sound.

Any more thoughts?

a lot of reverb on your track. I'm not getting the words easily, but nice sounds and levels.

Can you even get a vox ac-30? Didn't they stop making them?

Another Good One...

I've listened and commented on some of your previous stuff, this is just as good and a little different too. I like it, very atmospheric.

It reminds me of Sarah Mchlaclan in some spots - That is not an insult...I dig her and love the production on her albums...so it's a total compliment.

The only thing I would change is the bass guitar sound and the B section you go into at 2:25 - EXTEND that to just about the end of the song...that's a great part and you can really go to town with maybe a little bit of delayed guitar coming up behind it playing a little counter melody or something....it's nice how you end on with that guitar line trailing off at the end.

BTW - I have a G&L asat (tele) and Peavey Classic 30..(It's my main rig) they're a great combo! And it would suit your electric sound perfectly.

Good job.

Thanks! I'll take being compared to Sarah Mchlachlan soundwise as a compliment for sure - I like her stuff a lot, too. I kind of like that bass part, too. I'm suprised I came up with it, since I have about 2 hours of experience playing the bass. Oh well, most any guitar player can be a "sort-of" bass player - just not necessarily a good one (no offense to any real bass players out there).

I might have the opportunity to pick up a Carvin Nomad 112 (50 watt, all tube) for for a good price - I'm wondering how that would compare sound-wise to the peavey classic 30. I thought the classic 30 had sort of a vox vibe about it, which sounded awesome with the tele.

I used a classic 30 as my main amp for a long time and it is one little beast of an amp! Used it every tuesday night and sunday night for worship services and it was really versatile. If you go the route of the C30, plan on at some point replacing the tubes, as the sound can be drastically improved by ditching the Sovteks it comes with. I chose to go some extra steps and got Peavey's matching 112e extention cabinet, and loaded them both with real, made-in-England, Celestion Greenbacks. Wow...what a sound...

lol....I completely forgot to mention anything about the song! I like the direction you took it. I'm kind of fed up with the suffocation of style in modern "contemporary christian" music. I like that you decided to go a different route! I'm right there with you on the reverb and delay...so much of what I play is ethereal, almost haunting kinds of sounds. It's amazing what you can do with lots of reverb, crazy delay timings....and an Ebow! :D I don't want to shoehorn in on your projects or anything, but if you'd ever like to do any collaborative work, just let me know! It's fun doing this stuff, but even more fun doing it with other people!

Hey thanks! I've been wanting to play around with an Ebow for a LONG time, but just haven't forked out the cash for one yet. Every time I hear one on a song I just wish I had one for my own stuff. I think it would be awesome.
