Have been busy on some tracks..and curious what everybody things of the mix of these drums.
http://www.lightningmp3.com/live/file.php?fid=2212

I'm using a Motu 1224 and SM Pro Audio Pre-amp
SM57 on snare
AKG D112 on bass
AV Jeve tom mics
Beyerdynamic Opus 53 overheads

I know the track has got a couple of clicks in it, need to get those out of there, but didn't have time to export a new mix yet. Working on it, will be uploading that soon.

Not bad

Pretty modern sound. How are you mic'ing that snare?

Not bad considering how badly people trash the SM Pro preamp here.

Kick could be louder, but then I'm listening on crappy computer speakers.

A single Shure SM57 on top nothing on bottom.
It's a Pearl Sensitone.

I'm on the hunt for a Mackie VLZ Pro mixing board.
It's a huge upgrade froma SM PRO mic pre amp.
Yeah this isn't by far the final mix, I'm waiting till I can get some guitar parts done and then I start putting proper volumes on everything.

I'm aiming for a sort of Mudvayne-ish bass drum sound in the end...nice blending in into the single bass parts but nice and clicky enough once there is double bass going on.

Since I'm not a pro or anything I'm pretty happy with what I've done till now.

Good sounding snare I've got to say. Bass drum could use a steadier compression if you are doing for the mudvayne sound... are you sure thats what you really want? The bass drum sits and sounds good now, but once you pull a bass in everything will change. How are you one EQ spacing?

Thanks..well offcourse I want to try and find my own sound..but I really like it to go in that direction. And now that you say..offcourse a bass-sound should fit with it..and since the Mudvayne's bass player has a very particular style so it will be kinda hard..

On my bass drum I use a AKG D112 with eq settings:
hi mid
+5.0 on 3khz
-15 on 400hz
+3 on 100hz
(I run Cubase SX)
Also incorporated is a drumagog mix with a "dry hard" kick sample taken from the Roland TD-20 but mixed down to 15% and a pitch of +20.
That's how it is on the kick.

I like the overall sound and the playing is great. Would like to hear you in a full band/recording situation cause it'll rock. Good one.... :)

Sounds fine. I don't know anything about micing drums, but I just bumped your thread, how's that? :) :)
