hi there...
firstly my apologies as i am a complete newbie with all this audio recording...

i have the following equip
yamaha mg124c mixer, edirol fa 66, macbook, good mics etc...

i have been happy using the edirol for around 6months to record my band using one mic for live recordings.. i bought a mixer and some monitor speakers recently and want to add this to my setup.. basically i want to add more inputs so i can record more items...

is this possible with my setup?

also i really could do with a guide to what to plug in where.. i have no idea and really could do with the help

thankyou in advance

Hey Cap'n.

I just looked up the equipment you have. Looks like your card can handle 4 discrete inputs- although it looks like inputs 3 and 4 are rca plugs on the back of the unit.

You should be able to record 4 separate mics to 4 separate tracks with what you have.

One option...
mic > edirol channel 1 > computer software track 1
mic > edirol channel 2 > computer software track 2
mic > yam ch 1 > edirol channel 3 > computer software track 3
mic > yam ch 2 > edirol channel 4 > computer software track 4

to connect the yamaha channels to the 3 and 4 inputs on the edirol you'll need cables with a 1/4" tip / ring on one end and an rca on the other end. Take the 1/4" end and click if half-way into the "insert" jack on the mixer. this should take a signal directly after the pre-amp and before it gets to the eq and fader.

As another option, you could do the same thing but run everything through the mixer, so you run each of 4 mics into the mixer and route like the 3rd and 4rth mic in the example above.

The problem then is, what 4 things you'll mic if you are doing a whole band at once. You'll have to do some experimenting here.

We normally record my band during practice- we'll use 4 mics for drums, 2 mics for guitars, a channel for bass and 3 channels for vocals. Thats 10 channels and I'm trying to add a few more so I can get mics on toms...

Sorry for the book. Hopefully you can extract something useful from that.

See if this helps at all...
