Hi, I'm nearing completion of my home studio which is based on a soundcraft ghost desk interfaced to my DAW. My nextdoor neighbour has a digi003. Our studios are about 30m cable run apart and we are looking to link them for practice and song writing colaboration purposes.
I was thinking initially of a stereo pair in each direction, either on co-ax or on cat5 to balanced XLR. Also running another cat5 for LAN for file transfer etc.
My concern is that there is obviously a risk of a huge earth current flowing. between us.
Should I:
a) Look at connecting earth bonding our two properties together with a decent size earth cable - 10mm??
or
b) look at isolating transformers? not sure what specs i need to look at for audio use.
or
c) Look at opto isolation or similar - whats on the market for doing this?
also - what about the cat5 for LAN?
Anyone come across this type of problem before?
