Line6 POD or VG-8 or VG-88

Love the Pod,

I wish it had one more nob, for left, right, pan. I also think I could do without the flange, it's not my cup of tea. Instead of flange, I think an octover would be cool!!

I think the delay sounds great, as does the room and spring reverbs.

I wish I could afford the floorboard, but that's later.

For direct recording, I have no doubt, the Pod rocks.

I emailed Line6 about rigging a pan control, between Pod and mixer, I will let you know if they write back with an answer. This will be my first attempt at using "support".
 
i bet if you used the vg-88 to model the guitar and then ran the line out into the pod for amp modeling , it would kick ass !!!

The POD makes a good direct box for all my other pedals, so it sounds like whatever pedal through whatever amp I choose. If I want something other than guitar sounds, I whip out one of my synths. Easy and reasonably priced.
 
I got the pod and the simple footswitch. I dig it but I have no other effects other than wah, old digital delay, and a peavey(for sale)

I have balanced ins on my recorder, I thought the POD sounds better going thru a direct box. But when I did it the signal was too weak coming from the box to the balanced ins.
So I cursed a bunch and padded the signal through my mackie 1202. But the mackie that I have has crummy trims on it that sound grey and get all wonky when I use more than one.

So, I got a preamp (ALR Tube Channel) and I got rid of the direct box in the signal chain
I ran the guitar--pod--preamp--recorder. Finally, the damn pod sounded open.

The pod probably does sound good direct balanced provided its hooked up with TRS cables. My problem during my newbie studio building experience was that I was pushing a balanced signal thru an unbalanced patch panel. Doh. That really torks me. I am saddened by the fact that none of the members on this site never responded to my questions about balanced vs unbalanced. I am sure that this stuff is basic to you, but you left me hanging...

The pod rocks now.
The entire experience was fun though and I learned bushels.

HELP, VG-8 Broke?

After using this unit (Roland VG-8) for 3 months, just yesterday after I turned it on the D string suddenly is not working correctly. It does not any longer produce a picked sound, it sounds as if I am using a volume pedal with harmonics, and this is only on this string, the others all function fine. It kind of produces a feedback like sort of sound on this string only. I’ve tried to adjust the volume and driver setting for this string but it makes no difference. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated. Please help, I love this machine and feel as though I am without 300 guitars at the moment. HELP! please
 
I'd go with the Variax over the VG-88, especially if you're a POD XT user.
 
I must say when I was in this debate, it came down to the pod vs jstation vs vamp. I tried them all. I really likes the jstationed layout but it ended there. Pod vs vamp. Both sounded similar, I went with the vamp just becuase it was cheeper. I have had the vamp for about a year and still love it. It is really usefull if you have midi and can program the unit via the software.

You all can bash me now! :D
