Line-level to headphone adapter

Is there a way to convert a line-level output to a headphone jack with volume control? Or perhaps a cheap adapter I can buy?

thanks, that's a great link. I've been looking at headphone amps but thought there might be a simpler/cheaper solution without all the frills. The link you sent is the most comprehensive I've seen.

I can't believe I missed this before but the ART HeadTap is exactly what I've been looking for, and only $40. I especially like that it is passive and doesn't need a power adapter or batteries. Nice
