I have been playing around with home recording on my pc with a Creative awe 64 sound card. It worked fine with very slight hiss. Now I have bought a new motherboard and processor and the motherboard has integrated sound and no isa slot for my old sound card.

I decided I would try out the integrated sound and see what it was like. First of all I noticed it had almost no preamp on the outputs. Then when I tryed recording from my tape deck I didn't get anything. I can here sound coming through my speakers but nothing will record in cool edit 200 or my old program creative wave studio. I am sure the line in is not muted in the windows sound mixer.

I did notice in the multimedia section of the control panel that under the devices section there is nothing under the line input device (no plus sign to the left of it)

If anyone has any ideas please let me know.

I might also take reccomendations on a new sound card keen in mind I am budget minded.

jesus, dude.

you must eliminate your onboard sound.

the most dirt cheap PCI card will perform as well as your old AWE64...

sounds to me like you wanna buy a SB Live!, disable your onboard chip in the old BIOS, and reinstall your software.

bios and jumpers

just wondering about disabling that onboard sound when I get to doing it. I know i can disable it at the bios and with a jumper on the mobo. Which should I do.

Both. Leave no traces of it. You could even consider prying it off the mobo;)

LOL

yeah i've always hated integrated stuff. Mostly integrated video is the worst because I play some 3d games and anything video and integrated also sucks. I have figured out my problem though.

I had removed the default mute setting from the line in but not from the master recording setting. When I found out about it I was not sure whether to be happy cause I found out what was wrong or mad at the integrated crapp.

I am still considering a live to get decent quality but man I would love to have something like an aardvark with several inputs.

Is there anything cheaper out there with about 4 inputs?

Hoontech make some nice cards at very good prices. Look into the DSP24 with ADC/DAC2000, which is getting rather popular nowadays. I'm happy with mine. Search this forum for "hoontech" and you'll get some info.
