Line In only recording to left channel

I am trying to get my Behringer UB1202 to go through my line-in on my computer, but only the left channel is getting through. When I record, it doesnt record mono, it just records the left channel with nothing on the right. What am i doing wrong here? If i could figure out how to make the track pure mono that would be fine too. I want to be able to pan these bad boys to get a fuller sound out of a guitar, but it only records on the left. Panning to the right mutes the sound (no sound coming out of the speakers).

It is connected as follows: main outs (L and R) to y splitter (to combine) to 1/4 guitar cable to 1/8 adapter to SoundMax sound card (in the line in).

Anyone know whats going on?
 
you are probably going into your line in with a mono cable? That would be my first guess. But as you said, you should be recording mono anyway...

Here is what you do...In your track properties, next to each track, make sure you are on your VOL tab. Your three tabs would be VOL, EQ, and BUS. make sure you are on VOL and you will see In and Out buttons. Click on the in button and you will bring up input options. Any available input on your computer will be listed there. It usually defaults to record in stereo. You will be able to choose to record from left, right, or stereo here. you can also choose 16 bit or 32 bit here. just click OK and your ready to record...

There is a BIG difference between a 1/8" standard Y-splitter and a true "stereo splitter".

Check your adapter cable going into the soundcard and you might discover that a trip to Radio Shack will cure your problem. (Guess how I know... from experience!)

but this will give a stereo channel...takes up the twice the space of a mono channel and in the end..accomplishes EXACTLY the same thing...
 
You need to make sure the software is default to record in Mono. This allows you to choose either left or right of the line in of the soundcard. So for you you need to choose left side of the soundcard which will allow you pan the track where you want it because the audio is dead centre.
 
that 1/4 to 1/8 adapter is WAY TO HEAVY!!! yeah its in there but its pulling on the connection and causing it to read only 1 side. find a 1/4 to 1/8 cable at a radio shack before its too late.....belive me....2 mobo soundcards later...i killed the line in and the microphone jack on both

actually...he said he was using a guitar cable...its a mono cable so it being heavy wouldnt be causing it to only read one channel...but i agree that it is putting a lot of stress on the jack.
