Like I Knew You Would

Very catchy riff. I liked the tone on everything. Vocals sound great.

My only complaint is the rhythm guitars in the verses. I can barely hear the guitar on the right. And there really isn't anything on the left. So the verses end up sounding like vocals, drums and bass. After the middle break, the verses are better. But the guitars and synth could still come up even then.

I think I just got a little tired of the gits ... and set them back too far. Good point, Trip.

Sounds good. Everything seems to work well together sound wise. It was already mentioned that during the chorus the guitar tracks are tough to make out. The synth and vocals seem to overpower it but it sounds fine. Nice upbeat flow.

During the chorus, I've got acoustics pushing the beat ... but I agree ... I'll experiment w/ add it a little more sparkle to see if it defines the part better. Thanks for the thoughts!

I think it's a pretty good mix. My only complaints are IMO there's an emptiness in the verses that needs to be filled with something, preferably guitars, and the lead guitar is way too wet. I could also do without the back and forth guitar/synth thing in the lead break, but that's just personal preference. That part is a little cheesy to me. I'm on the fence about the snare. I like it's big splattery snare buzzy sound, but maybe something tighter and poppier would suit the song better. Overall a pretty good production though.

That's what I was trying to say. Greg said it better.

Greg is always fairly spot on w/ his comments. :)

Fortunately, this has not gone off to the M.E. for final polishing ... and so it's all still fluid. I'm not even sure I've got the sequencing on the album right -- and I may pull one or two of the tunes in favor of something else.

Every time I've pulled a song from an album, I've never regretted it. This new album I've just finished comes in at about 32 minutes. So what? I think it's a better listen for having the slightly weaker stuff culled. I'm definitely not making music for people who think the longer the CD, the better the deal.

Exactly correct, P. Sometimes there's stuff that just doesn't fit on an otherwise strong album. I was thinking this very same thought the other day while listening to "Bleed American" by Jimmy Eat World -- and said to myself, "If they had put a dog of a song on the album, it would have wrecked it. But they didn't."

Pretty tight mix...sounds like you've been working on it for awhile, everything clean and audible... Good arrangement and harmonies, nice and poppy- reminds me of Squeeze or something similar.

Thanks so much F_F ... but still? When Trip and Greg agree, I'd be a fool to not listen. I sat back in the studio this morning and redid the mix taking their advice. It is much better -- slightly more aggressive and forward, but with better flow through the parts.

Thanks all!!
