King of Bling
This is a guy named David Ramirez. He and my daughter played a show nearby a couple of weeks ago, so he came over and tracked a few tunes. I added some bass and bg vox and tried to mix it.

It's acoustic/folky kinda stuff in the vein of Damien Rice, probably. He's pretty good. Let me know if I fucked it up please. :D

Nice tune. Good mix. Nothing fucked up. :D

The kid sings nice, but I'm a fan of Better Off Dad with Jaimee.

Cheers,

Wow.

Good stuff, dude.

Wish I could pick like that.

Thanks for listening. The two finger picked tracks are all him...there's some of me noodling in there, but his tracks on all of these tunes were 1 takes, and they were just freaking perfect. Makes me sick. Easy to track, though.

Nice tune. Good mix. Nothing fucked up. :D

You're very nice, and I appreciate the listen.

I've got 3 other tunes from him. He played and sang everything perfectly, but the click was so loud in his headphones that they're bleeding through really bad on the other 3 songs, so he's coming back on Tuesday to retrack the guitars...so if you've got any gripes, lemme' hear em. :D

here's another one...all I've done is put some verb on the vocal, lol...there's not much to this "mix," but I like posting his songs. It's a good song.

I'd say they sound perfect. I hate when I notice bleeding click tracks after the fact.

Lovely vocal harmonies and great acoustics! How do you get them to sound so full? Compliments to you all! Recording's great and so is the song ;)

Cheers
Joe :) :)

Hey Chris,
Sounds really nice.(as usual)
Must be nice to have some decent talent to record.

Is Jaimee indeed off to school, or did that change?

I'd love to see you guys again if you ever get up Fort Worth way again.

Yeah, he's coming in from Austin tonight...should be here in about :20 minutes. I will make absolutely sure the click is inaudible on the tracks this time.

Thanks very much, Joe. He tracked with a Taylor of some sort...new strings always help.

Hey bud...She's a freshman at Colorado State. However, she's tired of being so far away from Texas, so she's coming home after the break to pick up some more hours locally...then she's off to UT. I think it's a better fit. In fact, it's the school I picked 2 years ago, but you know Jaimee...she has to go her own way. :D

Thanks for listening.

listened to the second link...sounds really nice. clear, but very rich and full. you captured his voice well. i like the amount of verb you added...just right.:)

Thanks, Heatmiser.

Well, he came over last night and we retracked the guitars and changed some things. I'm not really asking anybody to listen, but for finality's sake, here are the mixes of 4 tunes.

My favorite is "I Am Ready." It's 7 minutes long and devastatingly sad and beautiful.

I'm apparently a chick. :D

crap, there are too many styles of music out there that I want to try writing music in. This is now one of them. These songs are great, and sound great.

You addressed the problems I was having with the inital mix of just like her.

It was pretty muddy in the 250 hz range...but you clean it up nicely and the low-boxiness went away.

Beautiful tune, well mixed. The guitar mix seems to move around a bit in the stereo field until the bass comes in and helps pull the mix to the center a little.
Nice choice of verb on the vocals. Very sweet.

Chris, what was you recording chain on these recordings?

Both the vocals and the guitars were through an AT4050 >> Firepod. I treated the guitars with a compressor plugin called the PSP Vintage Warmer, which I seem to use a lot, and reverb. The vocals just got enveloped and treated with Roomverb. I used a small plate on Ready and some Hall type verbs on the other tunes. If I'd had more time, I would have de-essed them a bit.

This guy is amazing! Great recording/mix. Im a fan a this guy now.

I like him too. SUPER laid back, cool guy.

Thanks man. I could kick myself for messing up the original guitar tracks. When he played the guitar JUST to a click (i.e., the first time,) they were tighter. When he came back to retrack, he was listening to the vocal and playing a lot more dynamically which, while that SOUNDS like it would be a good thing, really made the tracks a bit more erratic that I would have liked.

This is just super. So the dude can really fingerstyle impressive. Beats me how people can do that and sing.

Very full tone from the git. Very rich. Good capture. Is that a shaker in the background? Or was that the click bleeding thru that you talked about? Sounded like a shaker.
