Halibut, North Dakota
I just sold mine. Now I'm wondering: How is life out there without the POD?

I can't even imagine it :)
It's easy... just imagine REAL tone being produced by a real guitar with a real cone being pushed by a real amp - mic'd properly with a good mic....... will beat that artificial "boxy" sound any day!

When you share your studio/living room with 2 kids and a wife and could never afford all the amps POD simulates anyway... the only option is POD, which does a decent job, IMO. No, it's not as good as a properly miked amp, but not a bad substitute either.
Just because it's not tubes doesn't mean it's not "real tone"
Hmmm... nope, I still can't imagine it!

There was a time that people thought that eletric guitars were a bad idea and that rock & roll wouldn't last. I say use what you've got. If it doesn't sound like a "real" amp, so what. The point is whether or not it sounds good in the context of the song and the other people your playing with.

Oh for fuck's sakes....

......I wasn't trying to start a war -- just disturbing the shit a little! My studio has a POD too - clients love it more than I do, though......

But anyways, use whatever the fuck makes y'all happy..............

(and lighten up!)

that pod

No offense ......... to each thier own. But the pod... I'd rather plug straight in to my RAT pedal and out to phones or overdrive some of those walkman speakears (plugged right in to your guitar) or in to a stereo and out in to some thrift store 50 cent 70's headphones. I could go on and on but shit. For me playing thru the POD is a damn disrespect to a guitar.

Sorry to hear that Lord. Personally, I have no qualms with plugging into whatever makes the noise that I like. I have tube amps, solid state amps, modeling amps, POD, J Station, Rockmans, etc. The only thing disrespectful to a guitar is leaving it in it's case and not playing it at all (or worse yet, letting a hack torture you with bad versions of Stairway To Heaven).

Re: that pod

My tone comes from my mouth and lips mostly. Oh... we're talking guitars here... :D

Oh my... I'm not exactly a simulator kinda guy, but the stuff you describe here... I dunno, but tonewise I think I would prefer the POD. You can get some nice sounds out of those setup, but that's not what you do when trying to get tone. That's what you do when you try to get lofi sounds in the special efx kinda way.

Not that I need a pod anyway, got vintage orange, hiwatt, fender, JC55, v-twin all in reach... One phonecall at most.

Then how can it make any differance wheather you micing an amp or playing through a simulater?
It all depends on how hard you want your fingers to work!!! ;)

hey roel,

where can you get that orange?

Guhlenn

The guitarplayer in my band has got it. It's from the first line of amps they made under the name orange. He also owns the 72 Hiwatt. The bassplayer in his other band also got a hiwatt, and the drummer got a rhodes and vintage Fender twin... JC55 and vtwin are mine. Then there's also this other guy that owns a vintage vox, and there's more... hehe.

And no, none of these amps are for sale. :p

Hmmmmmmmmmm......I have had absolutely no complaints about my guitar tone/ sound, and it's ALL POD...

Im not saying it's the best, but It DOES work... Especially, if set up properly.

If your gonna flip some knobs and try and sound immediately amazing, well, then you need to take some time and fiddle with it..

Heck, even the review "Recording" magazine did of one of my songs didn't make any mention of a problem with the guitar sound.

Different folks, different strokes I guess...
