Eternally Striving
I have 2 firepods right now. I get an amazing sound for what I've been doing honestly and quite happy. Say I want to upgrade though, without switching to Digidesign stuff, what's the next best thing for pre's to convert to the computer?

how about the Firestudio!

from what i've heard, the pres are better than those on the Firepod. plus the unit itself is much more flexible, tons of options on it.

oh? well maybe it's the converters...something on that thing is supposed to be better. nevermind then i'm a retard. i like my firepod.

yeah there's 'better'ness to it, there's more features and a lot of options but the quality of the pre remains the same.

This is only true if you have a Firepod less than a year old, the XMAX pres were developed for the Firestudio so they started putting them in the Pod.

Also the Studio haves a better clock and converters....

yup - in which case, I do - but all of that kind of is irrelevant to the question. Even if I had an older pod it wouldn't be much difference...

What kind of interface am I looking at past such things as firepod/motu pre8's etc...even if I'm jumping the price to like 2k for 8 channels instead of 400-600 for the pod/motu..

Look at the RME Fireface 400 or 800 those are above the Firepod and the Motu

Those do look like a nice upgrade to the FirePOD. I will be checking those out. So the pre's are better?

Look into a good clock for the system get every thing into better sync. For the price of an interface, they can do wonders for your current interfaces.

Another option is to use external preamps into the Firepod. Of course, the Firepod is still doing the analog to digital conversion but you will be bypassing the built-in preamps. I'm doing this right now. I have an FMR RNP going into two inputs on my Firepod. Definitely a noticable upgrade. However, this could get costly quick if you want more than a couple of upgraded inputs.

I own a Firestudio and the RME pre's are a little better than it
