New client I will be taking on somewheres in the middle of March:

12-person acapela group from a local college. All girls.

(Ponders this further)

That's as in no instruments to mic. No drums to set up or sound check. No difficult instruments to mix or radically eq or pan to find space for in a busy mix. No re-amping.

Just 12 cute girls, of a tender college age mind you, all with great voices, at my place, in one room, singing in harmony without accompaniment . . . with yours truly as the sole audience member.

Yea, life is good.

(And this should be a pretty easy setup so I probably won't be needing assistants on the project :D )

Gloating is not very attractive, you prick.

Of course, neither is jealousy. :) :) :) :)

Damn! You got it good! :D

You don't need any help with that project, do ya? :D

Do you need an assistant on this one. I come from a classically trained background and could help out very much. Also I have a digital camera and am good at talking girls into doing things they normally wouldn't. I could send you some pictures to prove it!! Best of all I'll help out for only a case of beer that I will split with you. And I can bring a U87! A maybe a matched pair of Km184's (Depending on when I finally get paid)

You'll find no better deals than that.

Wuh - hoooww ! ! Wait a minute here, fellas.

I appreciate your enthusiasm for the project, and all.

But this is an acapela group consisting only of tender, young, female voices (with good complexions and fit bodies).

I just don't see where, by any stretch of the imagination, this is going to be what one would consider even remotely challenging to record. We're talking zero instruments, here. :D No drums to sound-check. I might even get away with like 3 or 4 tracks, tops, for the entire project.

It's not that I don't want anyone's help. I'm just thinking about this for your own sake. I don't want to see any of you get bored and nod off on me or anything, here. There's not going to be much for you to do (other than sit back and be entertained by 12 young, attractive girls with gorgeous voices singing in harmony for you). Sure, it might seem interesting at first, but after the novelty wears off . . .

The problem is, the girls you see in your mind won't be in choir.. They are in volleyball, cheerleading , etc.. Look out for choir girls they have a mind..

the biggest all girl a capella CD i ever did was only seven...

the really nice thing about those sessions is, unless they are doing overdubs, there's no need for headphones.

Yo Chess, like in Chesshire CAT:

Looks like you'll be inhaling a lot of Shalimar and Tabu and maybe even some "after-Shave" lotion.

You are indeed a man of luck.

remember that clothes can be noisy in vocal only sessions...be sure to remind them of that every so often

Niiiiice

Choir girl to Chessrock- "Is that a chessrock in your pocket, or are you just happy to see us?"

Post the pics after the session bro!

Further Advice

Better just have them go topless, that way any standing waves produced will be difussed by their breasts.

And ahhhh....better keep it cool in that room too...because ahhhh...well....hmmm...you'll think of something.....:)

There really isn't anything to say...........12 young college chicks..tasty!:D

Don

Post some pics..LOL

I'd put lavalier mics on them. I wouldn't use them to record with, mind you,but I would make sure and adjust them quite often.

"uh,could you unbutton just one more button so can get this mic to hang on your blouse just a little lower.......thats the ticket"

Life isn't fair, dammit! you are going to get 12 college girls to record mid march and I get 4 old crusty old bluegrass farts......shit!

LMAO!!!!:D

Hmmm. Now you got me thinking. About baby oil. Yes, I have heard that the secret to slick-sounding recordings is slick skin. The baby oil also corrects bad vocal technique in a natural, unobtrusive way, and can soften rough spots in the human voice in the same way it softens a baby's chaffed bottom.

I like it.

Well I certainly hope there will be some session pictures to follow for us to see ;)

good thing this isn't an all-girl wind ensemble. i can just hear all the suggestions for exercises to build up their embouchures...
