Is anyone using the Lexicon MX200 as an external fx plugin with SX3?

The problem I am having is that I can't use MX Edit within Cubase. The routing works fine and I hear the effect, but when I hit the edit button I get only the ping information that tells me what the delay is. I suppose this would be fine for most external effects because you wouldn't be controlling them from within Cubase.

Am I missing something?

Thanks

You cannot have MX edit running while the MX VST plugin is running.

Thanks for the response. My bad, I didn't mean opening the MX Editing application. I meant that I cannot open the editing window for the MX200 where I can choose the presets, play with the virtual knobs, etc. When I try to open that window just as you would open an editing window for a distortion effect or whatever, all I get is the information on what the signal delay is in and out of the external effect. I'm sure this is the default for external effects since most external effects can't be controlled from Cubase.

Ok,

Couple of things then. You will need to run two plugins in the configuration you have, the first one is the external device effect (what ever you called it) and the lexicon mx200 plugin. Then you should be all set (you will also have new controller/automation lanes available).

ONE VERY IMPORTANT THING:

You NEED to turn off the lexicons midi port under device setup/midi/windows midi (both active and show should be NO) otherwise the plugin will not connect to the MX (only one connection can exist and cubase opens it by default)

cheers.

Thanks again alt.

Indeed your suggestion of opening another regular fx track does work. Kind of strange because you still can't edit the Lexicon identically to other fx, but it is workable.

You say "in the configuration you have". Is there another configuration I should try?

I run mine direct so I don't use the effects loop in SX (I use mine mostly in dual mono). But it really should behave exactly like a normal VST plugin but with 3 multifunction knobs controlling everything. Are you not seeing the plugin window with all the controls?

I see all the controls if I open the additional fx channel you suggested I set up, but I don't have anything routed to it. Everything is routed to the external fx channel, in which I don't see the window with all the controls.

For example, I have a snare routed as a send to the fx channel. If I'm in the snare channel and I hit the edit button in the send fx, I get the external effect pop up, which is simple a three slider control which says how much time delay there is between the send and return (basically a ping).

However, if I open the edit window from the additional (basically dummy) fx channel then I get the actual window.
