Hi,

I just bought the Lexicon MX200, and used the presets, but somehow I didn't like the sound. I try to get the best sound for vocal like studio, but dont know how to start. Does anyone use this board and had some good setting for vocal that can show me how to set it. I'm newbie effects for vocal.

Thank you,

Mai

depends on the style you're looking for. Good place to start are the plate verbs, although I haven't used that particular lexicon unit.

First you need to create a recording buss for your MX200 vocal. Route the vocal to the MX and turn it 100% wet.

Route the MX200 back into your software and put a high pass EQ set to around 200K.

Mix in the wet signal with the dry signal into your master bus.

There are a lot of options from here like compression or EQ before or after the MX200 and then mixing this into the signal.

Hope this gives you some ideas. One more thing, if you are plugging your mic directly into the Lexicon, then routing this into your recorder, you are not going to get the best results.

More info...

Tell me how you have this set up -- are you using it in a send/return from a mixer, or using it in software?

The MX200 ships in "Serial" mode as default, which means that the Wet/Dry mixes are mostly around 50%... this won't be as effective if using it in an Aux Send/Ret path.

Go into the Utility Mode by pressing STORE and AUDITION together, then use AUDITION to page through the Utilities until you get to Fb and it alternaes with SE (That's Factory Bank / Serial). Rotate the Program Select knob until the display reads PA (Parallel). Press STORE to save the setting.

This will set your Wet/Dry Mix on most of the Factory Programs to 100% Wet (depending on the Program, of course).

There are LOTS of opins on what sounds "good" for vocals -- what makes them stand out from the mix, etc. -- and of course, what the source material (vocal) is -- but maybe start by trying POP VOCAL, BIG POP VOCAL, or BIG VOCAL VERB. Adjust to taste.
