Lexicon MPX550 Help

Hi, I am using the MPX550 with my Mackie 808s PA system. I plugged my guitar into one channel of the mpx550, my mic into the other channel. Each channel then goes into separate mixer channel inputs on my 808s. Whatever adjustments I make to the output on the mpx550, I can't get the level meters on the mpx550 to respond at all. Also, I don't get much power out of the vocal mic channel, and if I turn my PA channel gain and inputs up I get alot of hiss. The channel for the guitar is fine, nice and loud and quiet. Any ideas why?
 
Why are you plugging your microphone directly into the Lexicon? I looked at the webpage for the processor, and it appears to only have line-level inputs (it doesn't mention anything about microphone preamps). Microphones are much lower level than line level. Plug your microphone into the PA and use the Lexicon via an aux send.
 
I was thinking that maybe I need a preamp between the mic and the mpx550, but I will look further into the other patching options.
 
Yup, you absolutely do, it's at line level, not mic level.
 
Mic into one of the mic inputs.

One way (more or less the standard way)

In the EFFECTS section of the board, take the send (you'll need an insert [Y]cable here) to the Lexicon's inputs, and run the Lexicon's outputs to Left Return and Right Return respectively.

You the use the EFX knobs on each channel strip to determine how much goes to the Lexicon.
